The fish that adorns the lid of this vessel is both a new genus and species of Amazonian fish discovered and identified on a Field Museum and Conservation International Expedition that Sharon Bladholm served as the artist for in 1999.
On this two-month expedition in both Ecuador and Peru on the Rio Pastaza, a total of 44 new species of fish were discovered and identified, but this was the only one that was also a new genus.
